Last Christmas my daughter gave me a Poinsettia plant in a tiny pot. I could see that it was growing well when I re-potted it, so I took a photo at the end of January and have done that each month. After only 3 months it had grown exponentially.

It made me consider the ways in which my life is growing and changing, because growth always brings change, and change cannot happen without growth. I believe we should always be growing and changing, because God has created us to do that, but we can grow in either negative or positive ways.

This morning I heard about a woman who has grown into a bitter, hard-hearted, unforgiving person, who is always miserable and makes those around her miserable too. What a horrible way to live! I can’t imagine anyone wanting to live that way, but perhaps this person lives by her feelings and reactions instead of making reasoned decisions.

The Bible tells us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life”. – Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

Guarding our hearts probably has a lot to do with making right choices, letting go of negatives and holding on to what is good. That’s why I love the Bible so much. It has wonderful guidance and direction to improve our lives.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence”. – 2 Peter 3:18

We can grow in knowledge and understanding, wisdom and grace, kindness and goodness, faithfulness and love. In fact, there are countless ways to grow, which are profitable and fulfilling and will bring great satisfaction in your life.

I’m not forgetting people skills and emotional intelligence, which will provide you with good relationships and success in the workplace and in your home.

What part of your life are you growing at the moment?
